The Nichols Home is one of the first three homes where Wood Lane
Residential Services, Inc provides services. The house is located
in Portage, owned by the Wood County Board of MR./DD and is certified
an ICF/MR by the Ohio Department of Health and licensed by the Ohio Department
of DD. Nine ladies and gentlemen call Nichols Home their home.
The
Nichols Home was opened in 1979 and named for John and Nancy Nichols
who donated the land to build the first three group homes in Wood
County. The homes were built with the promise of returning individuals
to their home counties after living in institutional settings throughout
the state.
The Nichols Home is known for its creative prowess in
finding any excuse for a party! They are well-known throughout Wood Lane
for their Christmas in July party where, for just one day, the house
is decorated for Christmas and presents are exchanged. The house has
a competitive nature and does not back down from a challenge. In the
summer time you will see the residents taking advantage of the Slippery
Elm Trail and having many an evening cook-out. This is not just another
home and they are proud to stand out among their peers as a highly social
and active group.
